AT WESTPORT.

Jockey Club to Open TwoDay Fixture. FIRST DAY PROSPECTS. The Westport Jockey Club will open its autumn meeting to-morrow and conclude it on Monday. Good acceptances were received for the opening day, and the fields will include horses from the North Island, Riccarton and Blenheim in addition to those trained at West Coast centres. Only fine weather should be required to ensure a successful fixture. A number of Riccarton jockeys will be riding at the meeting. The principal events on the first day are the Morley and Scanlon Handicaps. Many of the acceptors hold more than one engagement.

With thirteen acceptors there is the material for a good field in the Morley Handicap. Miladi was unplaced twice at Trentham last month, but she beat a big field over a mile on the same course in January. At the Marlborough meeting in February she ran two thirds. Ravine has not raced since the last Coast circuit, when his best performance was to win the Perotti Memorial, one mile and a quarter, at Reefton. Argentic won thrice at Riccarton in November. He was unplaced in two races at Trentham in January, but has come on again since then. Little Wonder won a double over six furlongs at Tolaga Bay on February 16. but was twice unplaced over seven furlongs at Napier Park early in March. White Doe, during the Christmas-New Year racing on the Coast, won twice over seven furlongs at Hokitika and scored over six furlongs and a half at Reefton. On December *3l Miss Mercia won over six furlongs and a half at Omoto. She managed two seconds and a third in her other six starts on the circuit. Don Jose won the High-weight mile at Waimate on March 30. Eaton Hall had eight races on the holidav circuit, and won twice—over six furlongs and a half at Omoto and over seven furlongs at Hokitika. Shootist was unplaced at Trentham recently. In mile races at Masterton a week earlier he finished third and fourth, while he won over six furlongs at the Wairarapa meeting at the New Year. Form savs little for the chances of Noteworthv and Fallow. Atone, who has not raced this season, was second over six furlongs and a half at Omoto last June. Of the acceptors for the Scanlon Handicap Miss Mercia, Done Jose, Eaton Hall, Noteworthv and Shootist are referred to under the Morley Handicap.
