SERIOUS FLOODS IN N.S.W.
Thousands of Acres of Land Under Water. SYDNEY SUBURBS SUFFER. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received April 7. 12,30 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 7. THE Hawkesbury River is rising so rapidly that the town of Windsor was expected to be isolated this morning. Rain has now ceased, however, and it Is possible that the river may subside. Thousands of acres of land are already submerged, and the Windsqr-Sydney road is under water and has been closed to traffic. The fine weather removed the fears of serious floods on the far northern river’s, but the Weather Rureau issued a warning that floods wci-e to be expected in the South Coast rivers.
At] creeks in the Liverpool district overflowed yesterday and the bridges became impassable, isolating farmers. Many low-lying ai-eas of Sydney suburbs were under water yesterday, anti many houses in Bankstown were flooded. The water in the main streets was sevei-al feet deep. Canterbury Lark Racecourse was flooded to a deptli of two feet. Much damage was done to max-ket gardens.
