HER MAJESTY’S FURS.
Atlantic hair sealskin, dyed from its original white to the dark brown of skunk, has been used for a fur collar and cuffs chosen bv the Queen to trim one of her winter outfits (states a London writer). The seals are caught off the coast of Newfoundland, and the Duchess of York was so delighted with the soft silkiness of the skin that she has ordered a collar and cuff set, too, but in a lighter “ mink ” brown. When the Queen leads the way Mayfair hostesses follow. One of her ladies-in-waiting has been asked to examine the fresh flaked fish provided by one of the Dominions with a view to regular supply for the Palace, where Empire salmon is already delivered. At the Empire market novelties for the fashionable dinner table included South African crayfish or Cape spiny lobster, guava cheese, and guavas eaten in their syrup with cream, papaw preserve, and cashew nuts for dessert.
