DAMAGE TO LAND.

Farmers Sue County Council. JUDGMENT OF COURT. Judgment was given this morning in the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Blair in th% compensation cases between John Thomas Hay and Oliver Hunter, both of Charteris Bay, farmers, plaintiffs, and the Mount Herbert County Council, consequent upon the making of the Charteris Bay-Purau Road through claimants’ land. J. T. Hay’s claim was for £5lB, to which the council replied with an offer of £144 Is 3d. O. Hunter claimed £382, the council’s offer in his case being £73 4s. Both claims were based, broadly, on the value of the land actually taken for road construction, and on the damage estimated to the remainder of claimants’ land. The award gave J. T. Hay £247 3s and O. Hunter £207 Is Id. Details of the awards were:— Oliver Hunter.
