SCOTTISH SOCIETY

Large Attendance at Monthly Ceilidh. The monthly ceilidh of the Scottish Society was held on Thursday evening in the society’s rooms. The Chief, Mr T. Gordon, presided, and was supported on the platform by Past Chiefs Robertson and M’Gillivray and Chieftains R. M. Speirs and M. Shier. The ceilidh attracted one of the largest audiences seen for several months. The programme was arranged by the Chief and the secretary, Mr G. M. Telfer. Laments were played in memory of two members of the society, the late Mr J. Stewart and the late Mr G. Wiseman, by the official piper, Mr J. M’Lachian. The following was the programme: Selection by the Pipe Band, under the direction of Pipe-Major J. M’Lachian and Drum-Major A. Kennedy; songs, Mrs A. MacGillivray, Misses E. Miller and M. Richardson, Messrs W. Bell, J. Richards, J. Wilson; recitations, Messrs J. Laurenson and J. Le Page; duet, Miss E. Miller and Mr .T. Wilson; acrobatic solo, Miss Pat Gregory; waltz (clog), Misses S. Chapman and M. Turnbull; tap solo, Mr Rex Foster; song and tap dance, Mr J. A. Fay; ballet, Misses M. Turnbull, M. Tonge and P. Gregory; tap duet, Miss S. chapman and Mr R. Foster; hornpipe, Miss Jean M’Lachian; Seann Triubhais, Miss C. Walton; double sword dance, Misses R. Belmer and R. Campbell: Highland Reel, Misses C. Walker, J. Dickson, R. Belmer and N. Walton; Highland Fling, Miss R. Belmer; Reel o’ Tulloch, Misses C. Walton, Jean M’Lachian, R. Belmer and R. Campbell. The accompanist for the programme was Miss Alice Gibbs. After the vote of thanks to the artists and the promoters of the concert, moved by Senior Chieftain R. M. Speirs, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne, dancing followed.
