LITTLE GIRLS’ THEFT
An eleven-year-old girl who appeared before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., in the Children’s Court this morning admitted tearfully that shte had stolen eleven skeins of cotton valued at Is 3 od, the property of some person unknown. She denied that she had been entirely responsible for the theft of goods valued at 9s lid from a large city store, explaining that her sister, aged six, had committed the offence. A detective explained that the two children were seen to take the goods in the store, and were taken by a shopwalker to the office, where they admitted the theft. The mother appeared, and the Magistrate pointed out that as there was a. suggestion that she had not given the children propter personal attention, the elder child would be placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years.
