BEACH RACES.

\ Middleweight Championship to G. Hockley. LIGHT CARS COMPETE. The Pioneer Sports Club’s championship beach race meeting was held at North Beach to-day. Both motorcycles and light cars competed, the latter causing a great deal of interest. There was a large attendance and the racing conditions were excellent. There were only three starters in the Light-weight Championship, and G. le Vaillant won easily from E. Brown. W. Needham, the other starter, did not finish. Le Vaillant’s time was good and, although it was not a record, it was nearly a minute faster than last year’s. The following were the results:— EIGHT MILES HANDICAP, (Open.) E. Brown (22 h.p. H.-D.), 76se c .. 1 A. Smith (3J h.p. A.J.S.), 20sec £ LE. Evans (35 h.p. Rudge), 20sec .. 3 At four miles E. Brown was leading comfortably from Needham. Smith was lying a good third, with thte race well in hand. In a great finish E. Brown won by a length from Smith, who beat Evans by half a wheel. Times 7min 12 l-ssec, 6min 16 2-ssec, 6min 16 4-ssec. LIGHT-CAR, EIGHT MILES HANDICAP. H. Hay wax'd (7 h.p. Austin), 3 20 sec . 1 A. D. Tench (Singer Nine), 200 sec 2 L. ?P. Beattie (Wolseley Hornet), 145 sec * 6 The four sports cars came round together at the four-miles. B. J. Tench and H D. Christie were together, closely followed by C. R. Hayward and J R. Tench. In a great turn, B. J. Tench took the lead by a narrow margin, followed by the drivers in the order mentioned. Won easily. J. R. Tench was a good fourth. Times—llmln 53 1-osec, 9min 59sec, 9min Slsec. LIGHT-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (Eight Miles). G. Le Vaillant (2f h.p. Velocette) 1 E. Brown (22 h.p. Harley-Davidson) Z At the end of four miles Q. Le Vaillant led from W. Needham with Brown just behind. Le Vaillant overshot the flag, but he had sufficient lead to recover and still head the others. Le Vaillant had increased his lead at eight miles, while Brown had passed Needham and was leading by about fifteen yards. Le Vaillant won easily from E. Brown. The only riders to finish. Times —lOmin 29 2-ssec, lOmin 45 3-ssec. LIGHT CAR HANDICAP (Sixteen Miles). A. D. Tench (Singer Nine), 6min 16sec 1 H. Hayward (Austin Seven), lOmin 4sec 2 H. D. Christie (Wolseley Hornet), 48sec 3 At eight miles H. Hayward was leading from A. D. Tench, with Beattie, Hayward, Christie and J. R. Tench next. B. J. Tench pulled out. At twelve miles A. D. Tench was leading from H. Hayward, with Beattie third. A. D. Tench won easily from Hayward, with Christie a long way back third. Times—lßmin 44sec, 24min 3sec, 14min 54sec.
