MELBOURNE, March 7. : The return match between the i M.C.C. team and Victoria ended in a ; tie, both sides totalling 504. The M.C.C., in the first innings, scored 321, and to-day declared their second innings closed when nine wickets had fallen for 183 runs. Victoria, whose first innings score was 327, had time to score 177 runs for the loss of three wickets. Resuming in perfect weather on a good wicket, the Englishmen gave a surprisingly dull display, batting very cautiously. Hammond made some splendid drives. The Australian bowlers performed well. The innings was declared closed-at 3.51 p.m. The Australian batsmen made a great bid for victory and there was intense excitement during the closing stages of the game. Rigg. driving and pulling excellently, reached 50 in sixty-six minutes. and Bromley was inclined to be reckless When one run was wanted off the last ball of the day for Victoria to win, Rigg mishit and was caught.
