Palace went well to beat Aroma over five furlongs in lmin 3sec, the last half-mile in 49sec. The two-year-old Cottesmore, who has improved a lot lately, beat Epigram by a head over six furlongs in lmin 17sec. Late Jest, who knocked himself last week, will not race at Masterton. Lovecourt was always going better than Chile over seven furlongs runs in lmin 33 l-ssec. Chile is, however, a lazy worker. Invite surprised by keeping ahead of Shootist to the end of six furlongs, run in lmin 20sec. Azure recorded lmin 19 2-ssec. RE-ASSESSMENTS. APPEALS SUCCEED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 7. Appeals in connection with the Chief Cook disqualification case at Te Aroha were upheld by the Auckland District Committee. Appellants were E. Montague, owner of Chief Cook, the trainer, P. W. Scally, and the jockey. I Jenkins. On the ground that the horse was not run on his merits in the Waihou Handicap on February 25, the judical committee of the Te Aroha Jockey Club disqualified each for six months. The race was won by Gay Lap, with Hampton Park second and Chief Cook third.
