SCHOOLBOY TOURISTS.
English Party Visits Hermitage. Since they were last in Christchurch the English public schoolboys have fulfilled a varied programme, including ski-ing at Mount Cook, chamois shooting, swimming and motoring in the cold lakes district. The party was lucky in the time of its visit, arriving on the first fine day after seventeen days’ continuous rain. That was on Friday. On the Monday they split up into smaller parties, some going to the Ball Hut from The Hermitage, others to the Malte Brun Huts and still others chamois shooting. While on the Tasman Glacier one of their number fell twenty feet into a crevasse where he came to rest on a ledge with the prospect of hurtling into space below, but ropes solved the difficulty. The party was accompanied by two of The Hermitage guides and all the boys expressed themselves delighted with the outing. They left The Hermitage by special cars yesterday morning on their return to Christchurch and lunched at Mr T. D. Burnett’s at Cave. Last evening they attended a concert at Christ's College, where they are staying. This morning they paid a visit to Canterbury Agricultural College (Lincoln) ; and in the afternoon played a cricket match against a Christ’s College eleven. At 5.30 p.m. they will meet the Officer Commanding the Canterbury Regiment at the Jellicoe Hall, together with as many returned soldiers as can make it convenient to attend. To-morrow they will leave for Greymouth, where they will go to Westport, Nelson, Picton and cross to Wellington. They will sail for England from Auckland on March 23.
