ARCHBISHOP’S DEATH

Remains Will be Taken to Australia. REFERENCES IN CATHEDRAL. The body of the Most Rev J. C. Wright, D.D., Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of Australia, which is now lying at Bishopscourt, will be embalmed and taken to Australia for burial. Mrs Wright and her daughter, Mrs Greville Warren, and Mr Warren are now at Bishopscourt. Mr and Mrs Warren arrived from their home in Hawke’s Bay this morning.

The Bishop of Christchurch, Dr Campbell West-Watson, will make special reference to the career of the late Primate, when preaching at the morning service at the Cathedral to-morrow. The Bishop intended visiting the southern portion of the diocese yesterday, and reached as far as Hinds before receiving news of the Archbishop’s death. The Bishop was to have visited Timaru and Temuka, but returned to Christchurch immediately. TRIBUTES IN SYDNEY. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 25, noon.) , SYDNEY, February 25 Many public tributes were paid to the late Archbishop Wright, including those from the Premier, the Leader of the Opposition, the Lord Mayor and the Chief Justice. Pending the filling of the vacancy Bishop Kirkby will occupy the position of Administrator of the Diocese of Sydney. Upon hearing of his father’s death at Christchurch, Mr Bertram Wright, who is a barrister, returned his brief and quitted the Supreme Court. He embarked instantly for New Zealand to bring back the body. The funeral will take place from St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, when he returns.
