ENGINEER ASSAULTED.

Incident on the Mawbera Quay. (Special to the “ Star.”) GREYMOUTH, February 25. In the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., Michael O’Brien, aged 31 years, a married man, was convicted and fined £2 and ordered to pay doctor’s expenses 10s 6d for an assault on George Montague in Mawbera Quay on Friday night. Montague is second engineer on the motor vessel Gael. The Magistrate ordered £1 of the fine to be paid to Montague. He was injured severely with a blow in the jaw, and two stitches had to be inserted. Sergeant Hodgins said the defendant made a departure in this case. Previously he had struck persons on the head with a hammer.
