Christchurch Club in Good Position. The annual meeting- of the Christchurch Coif Club was held last night, the president, Mr Norton Francis, beingin the chair. Tn moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (as published), the president said that The work of the committee had been easier than usual. Complaints were few, and members appeared to be satisfied wit lithe methods adopted for the carrs'ing- on of the club. Financial Position, " The printed balance-sheet discloses the usual full information of the receipts and expenditure, and the satisfactory financial position so far as the capital account is concerned. With the general drop in value of nearly everv class of property, the club is fortunate in having accumulated a reserve fund of over £3OOO to meet any shrinkage in the value of its general assets. For the first time since 1926 the club had no overdraft on its balance date, and it is hoped that it may be possible to retain this favourable position. The total value of the assets is some £SO higher than last year, but considerably lower than the totals in 1930 and 1929, when both plant and furniture values were higher. “ The main revenue is necessarily obtained from members’ subscriptions. Although the total membership roll, if we included twenty-two youth players, showed a record of 397, as against 380 J®®* ear ;, and an average of 376 for 1J26-31, the subscriptions received by th .e treasurer were only £1932, compared with £2381 last year, and an average of £2478 for the past five years. The fees paid by the Ladies’ Club, based on payment of £4 10s for each playing member, also showed a reduction of about £SO, their payment being £694, instead of an average payment of £738 for the six previous years. The total revenue was £3691, as against £4238 last year, and was the lowest collected since 192/. All expenditure was cut down drastically to keep within the decreased The report and balance-sheet, as a whole, Avere adopted. Mr A. A. Boon moved that the incoming committee be recommended to purchase the Avatering plant noAv installed on trial, subject to satisfactory financial arrangements. The neAv plant, he said, was ideal for the job and the cost was reasonable. The mot ion was seconded by Mr L. A. Dougall and carried unanimously. It Avas decided to set aside a sum not to exceed £l5O from the capital account to meet the cost of the watering system. It was decided to hold a closing day, on which the trophies AA-on during the year could be presented, the fixing of the date to be left in the hands of the committee. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr Norton Francis; vicepresidents, Dr P. S. Foster, Messrs W. T. D. Harman and H. L. Bowker; club

captain, Sir Cyril Ward; secretary, Mr J. E. Donald; treasurer, Mr F. A. Brittan; auditor, Mr Denys Hoare; committee, Messrs A. L. Cropp, L. A. Dougall, F. W. Freeman, F. E. Graham, K. W. Robinson and A. A. Boon. Alterations to Rules. The meeting dealt with a series of notices of motion relating to the alteration of rules. It AA’as decided that neAV members should be elected by ballot by the committee, instead of by a postal ballot of members. It Avas decided to make. proA'ision for the election of a deputy-captain. The retiring officers were accorded a vote of thanks. Mr J. Dolph moved as a recommendation to the committee that the New Zealand Golf Council be asked to allocate the 1934 amateur and open championships to Shirley. The motion was carried.
