WAR MATERIALS.

Japan Lifts Scrap Metal From Canada. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 22, 2.40 p.m.) OTTOWA, Februarv 21. Large Japanese purchases of discarded Canadian National Railwav rails as a cargo which was recently taken from Montreal are stirring war interest. The real purpose behind the purchase of seven old vessels is said to be use of the scrap metal as shrapnel. A message from Vancouver states that negotiations are under way by Japan for the purchase of a large quantity of railway equipment stored there since its purchase by the Allies for the Russians during the Great War and left there when Russia collapsed.

Within two months 500 tons of Vancouver scrap metal has been sent to Nagasaki.
