Erica or Heath.
A Garden Corner.
JOHNSON'S Gardening Diction- * ary enumerates some 450 varieties of Ericas. What a wonderful array and display they would make if all could be assembled together, for the few varieties
grown here are sufficiently varied in colour and form to make us appreciative of their merits. There is an idea that most Ericas are frost tenler. That does apply to many, but if a good warm position is given them, quite a number of the best will flourish like the green bavtree. 12. cruenta, autumnalis, melanthera, and Wilmoreana are favourites here. Caranthoedes coronata, Hybrida, Ventricora magnifica and Eweriana superba can be added to the list. The latter is a sturdy, upright grower, the long tubular flowers being red tipped with green and white. The first-named is a rich crimson, flowering in bunches. Some of our Cashmere gardens feature the Erica, but they are not grown anywhere to the extent they should be. T. D. LENNIE.
