THEFT OF A CHEQUE.
Youth Sent to Borstal for Twelve Months. William Clarence Carroll, a labourer, aged twenty-one years, of Templeton, was sentenced to twelve months’ detention in the Borstal Institution by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., this morning for stealing a cheque for £5 ISs 2d belonging to John M’Gillivray. Senior-Sergeant F'ox stated that Carroll had been working for Mr M’Gillivray at Templeton and the day his services had been dispensed with collected the mail and kept back one letter containing a cheque, which he afterwards cashed. 44 A man has to live,” accused told the Magistrate.
