ABATTOIR BILL.

Effort is Made to Revive Christchurch Measure. (“Star" Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, February 22. Efforts are being made to revive the Christchurch Abattoir Bill providing for the repayment of £3126 excess abattoir fees to city butchers, and validating the repayment of £2677 overcharged to the Refrigerating Company. A conference was held this morning between representatives of the Christchurch Retail Butchers and the Hon C. E. Macmillan, and this afternoon a further conference between Christchurch members of Parliament, butchers and the Minister will be held. The Bill was defeated on the third reading prior to the Christinas vacation, Mr R. W. Hawke (Kaiapoi) opposing the measure on the grounds of justice not having been done to the Refrigerating Company. The position is now that,' although the measure was defeated, it can be revived on the motion of the member, and. if the House is agreeable, the third reading can be completed.
