A complaint that primary school children Avasted paper and that Avriting pads Avere too expensive an item, was made by Mr H. M’Tigue at the meeting of the Canterbury School Committee’s Association last night. He wanted to know whether slates could not be used more extensively, in the lower classes at all events. Several members said that at their schools newsprint blocks AA'ere purchased in quantity from the newspaper offices, and were most economical. “We must teach them to Avrite with pens and pencils,” said one member, and then added: “They arc always breaking slates, anyhow! ”
