The monthly meeting of the Board of Management will take place to-night at 7.30 in the Dispensary Board Room. The annual meeting of the General Committee takes place in Ridgely Hall on February 23, at 8 p.m., when the annual report and balance-sheet will be presented, and the election of officers will be held. TLA.O.D. Members of Druids’ Lodges throughout Canterbury who have received the syllabus for 1933, must offer congratulations to the officers of the Royal Arch Chapter for their work in its compilation. It contains the dates' of meetings and the items set down for each evening, and proves an excellent guide for the entertainment of members. The foreword by the Grand President, Brother E. R. Warren, deals with indifferent members and brotherhood. The rates of contributions for male and female members, together with benefits, hospital bod scheme, ar.d dispensary arrangements, are clearly set out. Statistics of the order show that the total worth of funds of the Canterbury District are £140,729, interest earned £7433, Grand Lodge Funeral Fund £30,429. Grand Lodge Benefit Fund £22,821, and sick allowance paid during the year £5611. i.o.n. Pride of Christchurch Tent.—ln the absence of the Chief Ruler (Brother W. A. Bascand), the D.R. (Brother T. Nuttall) presided over a large attendance of officers and members at the meeting of the Pride of Christchurch Tent, 1.0. R., held on Monday. Sick pay was passed for payment. Five new candidates were initiated. The Juvenile Superintendent's reports showed an increase since tlie previous meeting. A report on _ the Medical_and Hospital Board was received from the seeretarv (Brother C. H. Bascand). Brother A. Martin, P.D.C.R., presented the tent with the District Membership Shield for the largest increase in membership during the past year, and the Bascand Initiation Cup. Brothers W. D. Bunt and T. Nuttall replied on behalf of the officers and members. A large gathering of members and friends was entertained by the Junior Brothers’ Committee. Musical and vocal items were rendered by Miss Beverlev Chamberlain, Joan Schultz and Mr Cliff

The syllabus for 1933, which 'has been circulated throughout the Tents in Canterbury, contains useful information for members. The membership of the 1.0. R. is over one and a quarter million, and is the oldest, wealthiest and largest temperance benefit society in the world. Founded in 1835 in England, it has a world-wide membership, and the societv was instituted in New Zealand in- 1866. The Order admits women as well as men with equal privileges, provides sickness benefits, funeral allowance and matermty bonus, medical attendance and medicine, also full hospital benefits. The insurance scheme provides for up to £2OO. The society claims to be the

only temperance society giving £1 per week sick pay for twelve months’ continuous sickness for the contributions paid by members. The names of the Canterbury Provincial Council and the dates of its meetings are included in the syllabus, also Tent meetings and list of secretaries. The benefits accorded to juvenile members (who are admitted from birth without medical examination) are set out, and form an added attraction for the extension of the Order.

Philipson Tent.—Brother T. E. La.ssure presided, and the juvenile report was given by Sister Dell. Brother Forsey reported on the church parade and on the annual meeting of the Hospital and Medical Board. Further arrangements were reported in connection with the jumble sale to be held on February 18. Correspondence was received relating to the High Moveable Conference. Sister Dell and Brother A. Masters reported on the meeting of the Provincial Council. The Chief Ruler extended a, cordial welcome to members of the Juvenile Tent, and at the close of the meeting they were entertained at cards and dancing to music supplied by Brother Lovell. A.O.P. Court Ashburton.—The Chief Ranger, Brother D. G. Smith, presided, and Brother W. Robinson was re-elected the Court’s delegate on the United Friendly Societies’ 1 Dispensary Board. Seven members were reported on the sick funds and £8 16s 8d was passed in their fav--1.0.0. F. The Star of St Albans.—Brother M’Callum presided over a fair attendance of members. Correspondence was received from Brother Champ (Druids), North Canterbury District Lodge and the United Friendly Card Association. Brothers Peat and Thackwell were elected delegates to the association, and the lodge is entering, a team. A hearty welcome was extended to Brothers Hitchings, Plumbridge and Vallentine. An excellent address was given by Brother Vallentine. An official visit will be paid to the Star of Sydenham on February 14. M.U., 1.0.0. P. Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge.—The Noble Grand, Sister J. Vincent, presided, and several visiting brothers were present, having anticipated listening to a debate between the lodge and Loyal Progress. Unfortunately, the debate had to be deferred until a later date, hut the visitors and members enjoyed an interesting meeting. One new member was initiated. Brother H. W. Gourlay, P.D.G.M., presented Sister M. Exton with a framed Past Grand’s Certificate, and in doing' so spoke in high praise of the work done by this sister for her lodge. Sister Exton replied, thanking the lodge for the certificate and expressing the hope that she would be able to do still more for her lodge. Arrangements are being made for the cricket match against the Loyal Progress Lodge, and the sisters are getting in some practice. City of Christchurch.—Visitors from the Loyal Sister Pearce and Loyal Kaiapoi Lodges were entertained at the meeting of the Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge. The Noble Grand, Brother C. Chivers, presided over a large attendance. One candidate for membership was initiated, the conductors being P.P.G.M. Brother W. Beattie and P.G. Brother G. Broadhead. The N.G. (Sister J. Vincent), Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge, Uie N.G. Loyal Kaiapoi and P.P.G.M. Brother James, Loyal Benevolent Lodge, responded on behalf of the visitors to the welcome extended by the Noble Grand. After the meeting the visitors were entertained at a social and dance. Sister H. Boakes and Brother A. Shearman won the Monte Carlo foxtrot. Songs were given by Sister H. Boakes and Brother Webb. P.G. Brother N. Carson, I.P.N.G. Brother W. A. East and Brother L.
