The Road to Fascism.

Dear Sir, —Councillor T. Armstrong has certainly earned for himself the contempt of Mr J. M’Combs, Labour M.P, and, if the display of animosity by the latter in his speech in Latimer Square on Sunday afternoon is any criterion, Tommy can consider himself dismissed with ignominy from the good graces and fold of the Labour Party. Professional politicians, when analysing the causes of our misery, can usually earn the plaudits of their listeners, but despite their eloquence and time-w’orn phrases, they are unable to show with results why their existence as advocates of the workers is justified.

I don’t agree entirely with Tommy’s proposals, although my hat is doffed in recognition of his courage and tenacity, which if emulated by his elders in the Labour Party, the will to achieve results for the unemployed would supplant their ability to talk. Most certainly the council employees nominated by Tommy for salary reductions, etc, can provide the opportunity to increase the staff, with a guaranteed living wage for all, and the jobs thus provided for so many of the unemployed would be an achievement. But be careful. Tommy boy; this road leads to the setting up of a Fascist dictatorship and. whilst your lack of understanding leads you in blissful ignorance into the enemy’s camp, your fighting spirit on behalf of the deserted unemployed (although misplaced) is an object lesson to the political Labour Party, and the utterances of Mr M"Combs can never prevail against your tenacity and genuine sympathy with the forsaken section of the community, —I am, etc, J. EDWARDS.
