WHIPPET RACING.

Belfast Club Holds Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting of the Belfast Whippet Racing Club was held on Monday evening, when Mr W. P. Spencer presided over an attendance of thirty. The annual import stated that the club had experienced another successful season and, although times were a trifle hard in the district, it was expected that the club would benefit materially by the transfer of headquarters to River Park, where the new track, laid down mainly due to the efforts of Mr K. 11. Smith, was likely to prove one of the best in the Dominion. Eleven race meetings had been held during the season and the winners of the more important events were as follows:—Spencer Cup, Mr J. R. D. Johns’s Charm; Conn Cup, Mr L. J- Coxon’s Rossaway; Blumsky Rose-bowl, Mrs H. Nankiwell’s Sun Shower. The club's St Leger, a scratch race for puppies which is to be decided at Easter, had drawn a fine nomination of over sixty dogs. The only happening to mar an otherwise successful season was the outbreak of an epidemic of distemper which had carried off several prominent performers. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a turnover of nearly £4OO and a credit balance of £33 7s lid, whilst the excess of assets over liabilities was £92 7s lid.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W., P. Spencer (re-elected); vice-president, Mr K. H.

Smith (re-elected); secretary, Mr J. Neale (re-elected); honorary treasurer, Mr K. H. Smith; honorary auditor, Mr Ct. Brown (re-elected); committee, Messrs V. Neale, W. Price, J. Ramsay, S. Wilson, E. Englefleld, H. Fitzsimmons and A. Jones. Votes of thanks to Mr K. H. Smith, Mr J. R. D. Johns and the newspapers were carried by acclamation.
