A NATIONAL PARK.

Proposal by Residents of Hanmer Springs.

Residents of the Hanmer Springs district are considering establishing a national park of 4000 acres. It is understood that a public meeting will be called, and if it endorses the scheme a request for enabling legislation will be sent forward to the Government through the member for the district, the Rt Hon G. W. Forbes. The boundaries of the proposed park will be the Jollie’s Pass Road on the east, the rabbit netting fence on the west, and the Clarence River on the north. The land, which is Crown land, is leased by St Helen's station. Mr F J. Savill being the owner. Mr Savill is absent just now, and this has handicapped the promoters. It is hoped, however, that the transfer of the landcan be arranged.
