HEDGE CATCHES FIRE.

Timely Arrival of Brigade Stops Spread.

A fire in the hedge of North Hagley Park, about a quarter of a mile along Harper Avenue from the Carlton Mill Road bridge, was responsible for two engines from the Central Fire Brigade being called out at 2 p.m. to-day. The quick arrival of the brigade confined the fire to a fe3v yards of fencing. Practically no damage was done, the undergrowth at the foot of the hedge being burnt off. The brigade’s arrival was timely, however, as the strong nor’-wester might have caused a serious fire if the long, dry grass in the park had ignited.
