OBITUARY.

Mr William Menzie*.

The death occurred yesterday of Mr William Menzies, of Menzies Bay, Banks Peninsula, at the age of sixtyone years. Mr Menzies, who was born on. the Peninsula, was the son of Mr J. H. Menzies, a very early settler. He was educated at Christ’s College and spent nearly all his life on the property at Menzies Bay. His father left him part of the old homestead at his death, and Mr Menzies farmed the property for a. number of years. Of late he lived at Tai Tapu, where he bought a small farm and built a second home. Mr Menzies was a very capable farmer, and one who studied the scientific aspect of the business a great deal. For some time ne also farmed a property at Seafield-, near Ashburton. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Gertrude Thorpe, daughter of Canon Thorpe, a former principal of College House, while his second wife was a Miss Dorothy M’Kay. He is survived by his second wife. He leaves three sons and two daughters by his first wife, and

one son and two daughters by his second wife.
