CUP-TIE SENSATION.
Walsall Defeat Weakened Arsenal Team. WILD SCENE OX FIELD. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 16, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 15. The Press describes Walsall’s defeat of Arsenal by two goals to nil as the biggest Cup-tie sensation of the present century. Arsenal, finalists in 1932, and the present leaders, were packed with stars valued at £30,000, but they lacked three sharpshooters owing to influenza and injuries. Their fate was sealed when a penalty was awarded after an Arsenal player kicked the Walsall centre, resulting in a wild scene in which blows were exchanged. Other teams in the third round of the Association Cup which spectacular!v eliminated their superiors, include Chester, Brighton and Leeds. The last-named, a young and cheap team, trounced the Cup-holders.
