PEST OF FLIES.

Possible Cause of “ Summer Sickness.” The hot weather has brought on a pest of flies in many parts of Christchurch, and most people have noticed that these nuisances have been more than usually plentiful, even for the time of year. There has been a lot of “ summer sickness ” among young children, slight temperatures with disorders of the stomach, and it is thought that the flies have something to do with that. There can be little doubt that they carry germs of some sort. Such places as ash cans and rubbish dumps may be the breeding grounds for flies, and steps should be taken to check the pest. Several people have found that the spraying of these possible sources with crude carbolic does a lot to lessen the nuisance.
