TALENTED PLAYERS

Australian Boys’ Band to Give Concerts. A tribute to the quality of the Young Australia League’s Band is paid by Mr J. C. Young, Palmerston North, who writes as follows: —“By the visit of the Australian Boys’ Band a great treat is in store for young and old. I happened to be a member of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Committee, and came into intimate contact with this unique party off and on the stage. They are a dainty and talented organisation. The boys’ ages range from eight to fifteen years, all very attractively uniformed, and the wee chaps, of whom there are a number, will immediately captivate the hearts of your people. They put on a first-class quality show, making an immense appeal to old and young alike. The soloists in vocal and violin numbers are splendid, while the several band numbers are simply a revelation, and, in addition, the humorous side is fully catered for. Their versatility is evidenced in the fact that they run the whole show themselves, provide the orchestra, conduct their own scene changings, work the lights, as well as put on the entertainment. The boys are drawn from working-class homes in Sydney, and in order to have the opportunity of seeing New Zealand are paying their way by providing these entertainments, all profits over and above expenses being left in New Zealand for Dominion charities. Despite their youth, they will travel several thousand miles, put on fifty-one concerts in fifty days, plus, as I have said, doing all the packing and unpacking incidental thereto.” Phe band will appear at the Theatre Royal on Saturday next.. The box plan is now open at The Bristol.
