IN SEARCH OF PUPILS.
English Schoolmaster on Visit to N.Z. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 16. Visiting New Zealand for the purpose of seeking some of his former pupils, Mr G. W. Pigott, a retired Liverpool schoolmaster, arrived by the Wanganella to-day. For 35 years he was the headmaster of the great Homer Council School, and has a list of 5500 former pupils in various parts of the world. He expects to find about fifteen in New Zealand. During the last twenty months he has made three cruises to various parts of the world with the sole object of meeting old boys. While here, however, he hopes to visit some of the larger schools and compare the teaching methods adopted, especially with regard to music and sport, with those of England. He is of the opinion that the employment of sport in the education of boys has reached its zenith. The education authorities, he said, had gone far enough with sport, and if extended the academic side of education would suffer.
