' Stanley Bingen began smartly in the I Kaitoke Handicap Trot, and by the ; time the field had gone half a mile he j was in second place behind Fairyland. ' and, trotting soundly, he remained j there till swinging into the straight for the final time. Then he raced to the | lead, and won comfortably by a length ! and a half from Fairyland. Garner, } a very hot favourite, was reducing the margin the leaders had on her over the final round, when she went into a bad break three furlongs from home, which ruined her chance. Once she settled down again she came very fast into third place, three lengths away. Four lengths back was Edith Voyage, and another two lengths away was Wah. Both of the last named pair made mistakes. Won From End to End. Golden Harvest won the Gracefield Trial Handicap from end to end. Ronald Derby began well and ran into

second place after going three furlongs, but over the last round he could not draw the leader back, and at the post was still two lengths away. Driven out. Trada was fifth most of the way, and finished on for third place five lengths back. After a gap of six lengths came Hemlock, Hero, and Thornworthy. The last-named was favourite, and had every chance. Wheat King alone failed to go away well. little Guy Finishes Well. Though reduced to a one-dividend field, the Hutt Handicap provided a thrilling finish, in which the favourite, Little Guy, came with a sharp run of less than a furlong and deprived the front marker, Raydus, of the dividend a couple of strides from the post. Little Guy paced an even race behind Raydus, and his driver timed his effort to a nicety, winning by a head. It was his first appearance at the Hutt Park, and his first important success over a distance. The win was very popular. Tactless was a moderate third, three lengths away, with Arikitoa, who pulled hard all the way, a poor fourth. Roi TOr Wins Cup Decisively. Roi l’Or won the New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup narrowly but decisively with a finishing effort that left his opponents standing over the final piece of the journey. Lindbergh was going well from the start, and, with a round completed, he was in second place behind Auto Machine, Gold Country, Free Advice, Peter Pirate, Glenrossie and Roi l’Or. Auto Machine was beaten half a mile from home, and Lindbergh was left in charge. He led into the straight from Glenrossie, Gold Country and Roi l’Or, who was coming fast, with Free Advice and Harold Logan. Roi l’Or finished too well for the others, and he caught Lindbergh fifty yards from the post to win by a good half-length. Gold Country was two lengths back third, with Harold Logan a close fourth. Then came Glenrossie and Free Advice, with a gap to Regal Voyage, who had begun slowly. Rey Spe»3 All the Way. Rey Spec obtained a fly at the start of the Improvers’ Handicap, and he was never deposed from the lead. With a mile traversed he began to loaf, and College Boy, between his sulky wheels, loafed, too, letting Mihad and Royal Chenault get up to them. When this had happened, M. Holmes sent Rey Spec along again, and over the last three furlongs he was always going like a winner. He drew away in the straight to beat the hot favourite, College Boy, by nearly four lengths. Seven lengths further oft was Royal Chenault, with Mihad fourth, and David M’Elwyn next. Except for a short breather, which Holmes probably let the winner have on purpose, the pace was a cracker all the way. Stanley Bingen Again. Penalised 24yds for his win in the opening race, Stanley Bingen trotted smoothly all through the Progressive Handicap Trot, and finally won just as comfortably again. Garner, once more a hot favourite, quickly made up her handicap, and she was able to take charge from Deceitful and Fairyland half a mile from home. Then Stanley Bingen began his challenge. After following the favourite into the straight, he soon had her measure, and he won by over a length with something in hand. Both Deceitful and Wah got up at the end to deprive Garner of any participation in the stake, a head separating the three. Ronald Derby Improves. Ronald Derby improved on his second earlier in the day to win the Probationers’ Handicap pulling up by six lengths. In fourth place for a round, he ran to the lead at three furlongs, and thereafter outclassed his opponents. Bingen Wrack looked a certainty for second, but broke up near the post, and Trada and Arion Axworthy filled the minor places. Golden Harvest, who was penalised 36yds, and Silver Berry were next. Race Stand Afire. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 14. Fire broke out on the top of the members’ special stand at the Hutt Park trotting meeting to-day. By the time some buckets of water were secured the flames had a considerable hold, a southerly wind fanning the blaze. The fire, however, was extinguished when chemical extinguishers were also brought into play.

ADDINGTON WORK-OUTS.

Oxford Queen Goes Nicely. Weather conditions were all that could be desired for the early workers at Addington this morning, and the track, which had been well watered the previous night, provided excellent going. L. Denton, who has both his horses, Wilbur White and Oxford Queen, looking very well, was the first to step out, and breaking away on a mile and a half mission, Wilbur White left about two and a half lengths in front of the mare. He held charge till a furlong from home, where Oxford Queen was pulled out and had almost a length advantage at the finish, going 3min 26 sec, and doing it nicely. Ruth Logan, big and well, hit out very freely in her task of one and a half miles, run in 3min 30sec. She was always doing it well within herself. Tempest (C. Dunleavy) went two and a quarter miles, the last two being done in 4min 50sec. He was not close

in and was always doing it well within himself. Harvest Child had Reylena as a mate in a work-out over a mile and a half, the mare getting a slight advantage, reaching the first half-mile in lmin 6sec, and the mile in 2min 13sec. There was nothing between them when the line was crossed in 3min 25sec. They were both easing up towards the end. Somerby, going alone, was worked over two miles, going the first in 2min 22sec. He was speeded up a bit over the last mile and reached the post in 4min 36sec. Plain Silk and a stable companion were to have been worked together, but Plain Silk was in a very sour mood and gave a bad showing, breaking up repeatedly. Great Thought, going alone, was sent two miles, but he was not out on a time breaking mission and covered the first mile in 2min 24sec; he reached the wire in 4min 52sec. Bingen Spiers an da companion were worked over a mile and a half. Bar a break before the first mile was covered they gave a fair showing, completing their task in 3min 35sec. Netta Oro, who went alone, covered two miles in 4min 40sec, the pace being on over the last half, which she left behind well, in lmin 5 3-ssec. Indianapolis, going away slowly and always fully three sulkies out from the rails, was sent two miles. Leaving the first mile behind in 2min 20sec, he reaphed the wire travelling leisurely in 4min 45sec. Rose Audo broke away fully four lengths in front of Te Kinga in a bout over a mile and a half. When she had covered a mile and a quarter in 2min 53sec, the trotter broke and the pacer also travelled badly. Going away on a mile and a half work-out, Mountain Dell (C. Dunleavey) was kept about three sulkies out from the rails, covering the first mile in 2min 20sec. She came home well on the bit in 3min 29sec. Don Giovanni, going the reverse way, and right in on the fence, acted as pace-maker to Germanicus over a mile and a half. Germanicus, standing him up about four lengths, was up with him when the line was crossed, going 3min 33 4-ssec. Quickfire went very evenly throughout a two mile journey, which he did in 4min 35sec. Peterwah, who looks a picture, was let off with just steady work.
