AT TRENTHAM.

Galloping Under Perfect Conditions. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, January 14. The weather was as perfect as one could wish for galloping at Trentham this morning, being fine and mild and without a breath of wind. The plough was a trifle slower than on Thursday owing to it having been watered. This track was used by the older horses and the course proper by the two-year-olds. No sensational times were recorded, but Good Hunting, Aiguille, The Quorn, Guarantee and Pegged Exchange all went nicely. Autopay (Gunn), starting from the seven furlong post, but always under a good hold, ran his last half-mile in 52 3- He will bte ridden in the Telegraph Handicap by L. G. Morris, as Cadland has declined his engagement. Red Sun (Shand), beginning from near the nine furlongs, and picked up by Sage (W. E. Rainbow) at the six furlongs, did his last mile in lmin 45sec, six furlongs in lmin 20see, and the half-mil's in 54 l-ssec. The two horses were together at the end. Red Sun will be ridden in the Cup by G. J. Jones, who was successful on him at Auckland. Solitaire 11. (Roliloff), picked up by Milnrow (Shand) at the half-mile, ran seven furlongs in lmin 33sec, the last half-mile in 53 4-ssec. Milnrow finished about a length in front. Guarantee (Gunn), Pegged Exchange (Dick) and Epigram (Shand) came down from tire five furlongs post on the course proper. The first-named pair on the outside finished together a length in front of Epigram after running the distance in lmin 1 2-ssec. Guarantee and Pegged Exchange both went well. Dole came down from the six furlongs on the same track easily, taking lmin lOstec for the last five furlongs. Cardinal Moon (Pritchard) and Platter (Leach), who do not come in till the second day, went a good half-mile in 51 2-ssec, but Late Jest (Wilson), following them, beat the ti»ne by a tick. Tout Le Mond (Dick) and Gay Crest (Jenkins) were sent seven furlongs. The former on this occasion just shaded his companion in lmin 32 l-53ec, the last half-mile in 54sec. The Quorn (Jenkins) slipped over a smart half-mile in 50 2-ssec, and did it well within himself. Flower (Robertson) drew out to beat Purse (Wilson) by two lengths at the end of six furlongs in lmin IS 4- the last half-mile in 51 4-ssee. Joie de Val (Leach) finished a length in front of Chile (Martin) after running a mile in lmin 46sec, the last half in 54sec. It was Chile’s first gallop over the distance. Also over a mile. Lyrical (Dick), who appears to be recovering form, proved a couple of lengths too good for Golden Horn (Gunn) in the same time. Thte best gallop of the morning was that of the Gisborne pair. Aiguille (Leach) and Good Hunting (Robertson), who, with the pace on throughout, ran five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 l-ssec. They finished on terms. A. Leach rides Aiguille in the. Apprentices’, and S. Anderson will be on Good Hunting in the Stakes. Other horses engaged at the Wellington meeting, including yesterday’s arrivals, Ruling Light and Shining Gold, did strong work without going against the watch.
