Advertising Peace.

Dear Sir,—Your correspondent “ Cooperator ” did excellent work in inducing Mr Hervey Hamilton to give “ Star ” readers an idea of a new approach to the peace problem, a problem which most people would regard as the outstanding problem of the day. Peace between the nations, peace between the classes within the nations and peace inside the individual men and women of the nations —if we could only attain a greater measure of such peace, how much happier we should all be! What a rational and happy idea! To use a portion of the vast sums which all the nations associated in the League of Nations are spending on averting the danger of war, not on preparing fresh instruments of war but on definitely, consciously and planfully building up the idea of peace. If peace is to be gained, it must be gained by an appeal to the great masses of the people. The great heart and intellect of humanity itself must be awakened. And what method do we find more effective than advertising when we have anything to sell? And what better thing could the League of Nations “sell” to its constituent peoples than peace? I am sure that I am only voicing the sentiments of all the members of our Christchurch peace movements in urging Mr Hamilton to go ahead with his idea, and he may rest assured that we shall help him all we can.—l am, etc., N. M. BELL. Chairman N.Z. No More War Movement.
