The chief feature of the Stock Exchange over the last twenty-four hours has been a firming in values of Government stocks. At the morning call there were buyers for 42,’s at £94, with no declaration from sellers. Except for gilt-edgeds the market opened quietly and no sales were recorded. In the banking section, New Zealands were firm with buyers at 41s 9d. A parcel of English and Scottish was available at Sos. Farmers’ Trading shares were w-eak. with offers to sell at 2s 9d. P. and O. deferred stock was asked for at 16s 6d. DAIRY PRODUCE.. The following is a copy of a cable received by Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, from Samuel Page and Son, dated January 12:— Butter.—The market is steadier. Danish 114 s; finest New Zealand, Sis to 83s; finest Australian, unsalted 81s to 84s salted 81s to 82s, g.a.q. 78s to 80s. Cheese.—The market is steadier. Quotations: New Zealand, white 47s to 48s, and coloured 56s to 575; Canadian, spot, white and coloured, 60s to 68s; Australian, white 475, and coloured 555. GOLCONDA GOLD MINING CO. The mine manager reports that during the week ended January 7 the following work was carried out: Work was resumed after the holidays on Wednesday last. We have been engaged

cleaning up the bottom level and timbering the crosscut. We have started a new crosscut in the north end to come under the winze sunk from the 70ft level, so that we can rise up and connect with the winze for ventilation. During the holidays two men were employed pumping and driving a crosscut at the tunnel level. The crosscut was driven into the right hand side of the tunnel level and about 20ft back from the main reef. At 20ft in the crosscut we have cut a now ore body, but not sufficient work has been done to determine its size. The. reef is carrying silica and zinc blende. NEW ZEALAND MEAT IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its London manager that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London during December, 1932. These prices represent a fair average of the prices quoted by the better class shops in London for the best quality New Zealand lamb and mutton.
