ORDERLY MARKETING

N.Z. Fruit to be Handled by One Firm. 12S A CASE GUARANTEED. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 13. 1.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 12 New Zealand’s decision to place the marketing of apples and pears in the hands of one firm is regarded in London as a step towards more orderly distribution, avaiding the chaos created last year by the arrival of 1,000.000 cases of New Zealand apples within eleven days. Naturally some brokers disapprove, but the ramifications of the firm entrusted with New Zealand’s shipments, which is understood to be Goodwin and Simonds, Ltd., are so large that they will have no need to have recourse to other brokers. The firm is capable of handling 1,000,000 cases simultaneously. It is believed that a guaranteed price of approximately 12s a case has been arranged for Cox’s and 9s for other varieties. An Australian authority regards the scheme as likely indirectly to be beneficial to the Commonwealth. It is understood that a Tasmanian scheme to entrust the whole of its British market to another group of firms is on the point of fruition.
