Young Doctor Dies from Typhoid. HEROIC SACRIFICE. (Special to the ** Star.”) LONDON, December 5. A 3-oung doctor who heroically fought the typhoid epidemic in the Yorkshire town of Mai ton and district has himself died from the disease. He was Dr G. C. Parkin, aged 32, Assistant Medical Officer of Health for Malton. He died on Saturday, after being stricken down in the midst of his work for others. His death brought the number of victims to 20. Many of the 243 patients who are now recovering from typhoid in the hospitals owe their lives directly to his untiring work and skill. From the day when the first typhoid case was reported in October he became one of the leaders of the group of medical men who threw themselves into the fight. At one time he was working all day and half through the night among the stricken men and women in Malton. * Then, just over a month ago, he discovered that he had been infected He was in the midst of the typhoid fight when he collapsed, and had to be taken to bed. A few da3*s ago. after his condition had been reported as “ very critical, ’ his parents were summoned from Newcastle, and were at his bedside when he died. He leaves a widow and one child.
