Amid scenes of great enthusiasm General Jan Smuts was welcomed by 10.000 when he arrived at Cape Town. “ This is a great day. This is unity at last,” said General Smuts, whose journey all the way from the north w r as marked by scenes of political enthusiasm and excitement probably unprecedented in South Africa. The country is now keenly awaiting the outcome oi Mr Tillman Roos’s South African Party negotiations
a t Johannesburg, which will be submitted to General Smuts and his cc-leaders this afternoon. General Smuts has already intimated that he will not allow considerations of the Premiership to obstruct a coalition.
