A Roman Stadium.

THE GREAT NEW STADIUM in Rome known as the Forum Mussolini is now complete. Situated two miles to the north of the city, it is one of the new wonders of Rome, shining with marble and recalling the grandeur of the Imperial age. Each province of Italy has a representative statue somewhere in the Forum. The Forum really comprises two stadiums, the first, whose tiers are made of 12.0Q0 tons of marble, seating 20,000 spectators, and the second set among the cypress trees that flank the Tiber, 100.000. The total area of the Forum is 17,000 square yards. Offices, gymnasia, dressing rooms and training schools make quite a little city of outbuildings and every form of athletic exercise is provided for, though the swimming pools are not yet open. At the entrance a large building known as the Fascist Academy of Physical Education has been erected and by the side of this stands the “ Mussolini Obelisk.” a rectangular monolith fiftv-eight feet high, mounted on a tall plinth. Weighing 300 tons, it constitutes a world record among monuments and forms a striking landmark, rising in all 116 feet above street level.
