ROWING
Louisson Cup Competition Decided. The Louisson Cup, a four-oared race for members not engaged at the Akaroa Regatta, was concluded on Wednesday. Six crews competed, and, considering that they consisted mainly of new members, the form shown indicated that the club possesses some excellent raw material for future use. Results:—First heat: L. Beardsley, W. Cooper, W. Blood, J. Lilley, beat Iv. Robertson, T. Preston, H. Perriton, M. Cullen. The winning crew showed superior combination and won by a length. Second heat: J. Cullen, T. Blood, H. Gray, L. Piper, beat A. Mackenzie, J. Reid, F. T. Brooks, E. Knowles by a foot. An exciting race from start to finish. Third heat: L. Robertson. C. Piper, F. L. Heywood,- H. E. Mace beat S. A. Hill, F. Sierakowski, K. Adamson, R. Meadowcroft. Another keenly contested race. Won by two feet. No semi-final was rowed, owing to two members of Robertson's crew being unable to be present. Final: J. Cullen’s crew beat L. Beardsley’s crew. A great race, a final effort by Cullen’s crew enabling them to win by a canvas.
