The placing of the mallard duck on the same footing as grey duck for shooting was recommended by Mr C. H. Lawrence at the meeting of the Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last night. Mr Lawrence said that the mallard duck, which was a menace to grain crops, had increased to such an extent that it was now one of the game birds, which it was futile to attempt to stamp out altogether. The meeting decided to recommend that the mallard duck be placed in the same category as Canadian geese and black swan.
