Mr and Mrs J. H. Howell, who have been visiting Christchurch, returned to Wellington last evening. Mrs J. A. S. Wait, St Elmo Courts, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs Maxwell Turner, Featherston. Mr and Mrs E. F. Nicoll, Sumner, have returned from a visit of several months to Ashburton. Mr and Mrs Peter Hall, Fendalton, left for a visit to Auckland last evening. Mr and Mrs W. J. Hunter and family, Cashmere Hills, will leave next week for a camping holiday on Banks Peninsula. Dr and Mrs Lloyd Clay arrived in Christchurch this morning en route to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Arthur Bridge, Fendalton, will spend Christmas and New Year in Timaru. Miss Frances Ilamerton, Christ, church, is spending a holiday in the North Island. Miss E. L. Clark, matron of Colomba College, Dunedin, is spending the vacation with her parents at Khandallah. Miss Joan Hodgkins, Wellington, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs Leonard Hewitt, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs 11. Bickerton, Greymouth, Miss E. Pratt, Wellington, and Mr F. Stewart, Dunedin, are staying at the Royal Hotel. Mrs la Clerc Latter, Cloudy Range, North Canterbury, is staying with her sister, Mrs D. V. Donaldson, Cashmere Hills. Miss Mackintosh, Principal of Colomba College, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs D. G. Clark, Khandallah, for a few days prior to leaving for Sydney. Mr and Mrs S. Ayers and Miss Thelma Ayers, Rangiora, left on Tuesday evening for an extended trip to the North Island. Miss Gwenhwyfer Wilkins, who has been staying with Mrs W. A. Meddings, Montreal Street, left to-day for a holiday in Dunedin. Sir Berkeley Sheffield and his sister. Lady Arthur Grosvenor, will spend Christmas at Mount Cook, and will afterwards visit the West Coast, travelling to Nelson and later to Wellington. Mr and Mrs H. F. Nicoll, “ Penscroft,” Ashburton, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow from a trip to England, and will leave later for Ashburton. Miss Stella Purchas, who has been in Melbourne for several months, returned to Christchurch and is staying with her grandmother, Mrs Percy Cox, Worcester Street. Mr and Mrs Riddell, Picton, who have been visiting England, returned by the Zealandia on Tuesday, accompanied by Miss Riddell, of Hermistan Hall, Nottinghamshire. They are the guests of Mrs P. A. Irving, Lower Ilutt. Miss Isabel Turrell, who has been visiting England, returned to New Zealand by- the Zealandia on Tuesday, and arrived in Christchurch yesterday. She was accompanied by her sister, Mrs Anderson. Miss G. Blamires, who has been for seven years principal of a girls’ College at Tonga, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and is staying with her brother, the Rev H. L. Blamires and Mrs Blamires. The resignation of Miss D. Brewster, full-time assistant at the School of Art, has been accepted by the Canterbury College Board of Governors. The resignation will take effect from January 31. Mr and Mrs Leonard Webb and Miss Mary Webb, Invercargill, will arrive next Tuesday and will be the guests of Bishop West-Watson and Mrs WestWatson, Bishopscourt. Mr and Mrs William Hunt and Miss Judith Hunt, Invercargill, will also arrive on Tuesday to be the guests of Bishop and Mrs West-Watson. Latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal include: —Miss E. T. Thomson, Mrs Armtsrong, Miss E. M. Cooper, gifts in kind from Mr and Mrs A. Billens and Greendale Women’s Institute. Miss Eunice Meredith, soprano soloist at the carol concert given by the Harmonic Society in the Civic Theatre last evening, was wearing a lovely gown of magnolia cream brocade, fitting to a low hipline from which the skirt flared fully to the toes. The corsage was rucked to the point of the V-neck, where it was caught with a diamente ornament. She received several beautiful bouquets. Miss Blanche Atkinson, the accompaniste, %vore a pretty carnation pink frock with flared skirt draped to one side.
