STRONG PROTEST.
Imprisonment of Agitators Unjust.” TRADE UNION OBJECTION. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 22, 2 p.m.) LONDON, December 21. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress has written to Mr MacDonald protesting against the imprisonment of Tom Mann and Emfys Llewellyn, who were charged with inciting the unemployed to violence. The Trades Union Congress letter described the case as a travesty of Justice and political persecution and asserts that they are being punished under obsolete statutes framed over a century ago for the purpose of the suppression of political opinions in totally different circumstances from to-day’s. The council, while condemning attempts to incite the unemployed to violence, declared that such sentences were likely to imperil the public peace and it urged the Government to grant the immediate release of the men.
