Christmas and New Year Attractions. WEEK OF HOLIDAY. The holiday period for those staying in Christchurch offers many attractions on the Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. There is a full' programme of outdoor sports, and most of the theatres and dance halls have arranged for special holiday attractions. Shopping will have to be done at the latest on Saturday morning. The late night this week and next week will be to-morrow, and on the Saturday the shops will close at the usual time. The Railway Department has arranged for specially augmented holiday services on the main lines, as well as a large number of special excursions and trains to sports and race meetings. A daily service will be run between Christchurch and Invercargill till January 31, and the trains will also be run on Christmas Day. Relief trains and night trains will be run between Christ- . church and Dunedin. There will be a daily service between Christchurch and Greymouth, as well as special night trains and relief trains. The following is a list of holiday attractions: Saturday, December 24. Plunket Shield cricket match, Canterbury v. Auckland, at Lancaster Park. Canterbury provincial tennis championships begin at Wilding Park. Athletic and cycling sports at English Park. Outboard Motor-boat Club’s i-aces at Redcliffs. Broadsiding at Monica Park. Carnival at Winter Garden. Talking pictures at the following theatres:—Regent, Plaza, Theatre Royal, Crystal Palace, Majestic, Liberty, Everybody’s and Civic. Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25. Railway excursion to Timaru. Monday, December 26. Plunket Shield cricket at Lancaster Park. 1 Tennis championships at Wilding Park. Christchurch Golf Club’s Christmas tournament. Canterbury rifle championships at Redcliffs. Canterbury Croquet Association’s tournament at United greens. South Christchurch bowling tournament (rinks) at Beckenham, Barrington and Spreydon. Ljnwood bowling tournament. Sports meetings at Doyleston, Halswell, and Oxford. Railway excursion to Otira. Excursion to Stewart’s Gully. Galas at “ The Pines,” Kairaki, and at Waikuku. Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting, Westport Trotting Club’s meeting and Westland Racing Club’s meeting at Hokitika. Lyttelton ferry launches run special services to Corsair Bay and Diamond Harbour. Wednesday, December 28, will be the last day of the Canterbury-Auck-land cricket match, while the South Christchurch bowling tournament, the tennis championships and the croquet tournament will continue.
