ASSAULTED WOMAN.
Followed Widow Home and Molested Her. Alfred Ernest Candy, a married man, of Stennes Avenue, Spreydon, was convicted in the Magistrate's Court this morning and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. He had pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting Edith Whiteside, a widow, of Sydenham, on November 34. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., was on the Bench. Chief-Detective Carroll said that Mrs Whiteside was a widow living with her two 3'oung sons. While she was in the Sydenham Cemetery tending a grave, accused came up to her and struck up an acquaintance. Two months later, on November 24, Gandy had met Mrs Whiteside in the street, followed her home against her will, entered the house and then interfered with her. Later in the same day Cand> r came back to the house, but Mrs Whiteside locked herself in. When he had gone she advised the police. Candy, in evidence, said that he had been, encouraged by Mrs Whiteside. “I’ve formed my own opinion of you, said Mr Mosley, in passing sentence.
