A Railway Record.
HpHE NEW ELECTRIC RAILWAY connecting Rome with Viterbo, through northern Latium, is eighty miles long and has one of the largest underground stations in the world. The railway establishes a new record, since it has been built and equipped in less than a year, a really remarkable achievement. Mussolini’s great city-planning scheme cannot be completed for another fourteen or fifteen years. Not only will old Rome be altered out of all recognition, but the new city will stretch for miles towards the Alban Hills and the Mediterranean, to Nettuno on the south and Civitavecchia on the north. The plans allow for a Rome with double its present population of a million, and the site proposed covers over twenty thousand acres of land whers shepherds are at present still tending their flocks.
