j tiasissafiisMsissiSEisHssiiiiJi | ACCEPTANCES for the Gore, Waira rapa, Westport and Auckland Trot ting Clubs’ meetings will close this evening. * * * * Acceptances for the Ashburton Trot, ting Club’s meeting will close on December 19. *** * . Nominations for the trotting events included in the programme of the Southland Racing Club will close this evening at five o’clock. * * * * G. M. Mouritz will leave to-night for Auckland with Taxpayer and May Chenault. * * * * The closing of nominations for the Westland Trotting Club’s meeting has been extended till 11 am. to-morrow. A WEST TOAST IDOL Olive Nelson, on the Coast, is the Phar Lap of the light harness world, and, as such, she will receive a tremendous reception when she appears on her mile exhibition at the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting. Her effort is to be made on the first day of the gathering. QUITE WELL AGAIN. Ronald Derby has made a pleasing recovery from his illness, and will reappear in the Duvauchelle Trot Handicap at Riccarton to-morrow. He is a very capable three-year-old, and may take time to gain confidence. It is only a question of his repeating his private form and he will be led in a winner. * 4c * * * Mr J. R. M’Kenzie will be represented in the Duvauchelle Trot Handicap) at Riccarton to-morrow by another useful son of Great Bingen in the threc-year-old Tollgate. He is a speedy gelding. and has shown plenty of ability at stages of previous contests. It is only a question of his becoming sea- ' soned to win races. HER GOOD WORK. Rey Direct’s work has been consistently good, and she is very well. F. ; Holmes has handled her judiciously and put her in real shape to win race!-. She is engaged in the Duvauchelle Trot Handicap at Riccarton to-morrow, and over a mile and a quarter she will keep the opposition very busy. A CAPABLE PACER. The very much improved pacer College Boy is engaged in the Little River Handicap at Riccarton to-morrow. At Ashburton on December 3 he ran second to St Felix in 3min 22sec. On that occasion he began from 36yds behind, so had to thread his way through a field of seventeen horses. Under the circumstances it was a splendid performance. He is on the limit of a 3.41 class to-morrow, and should be hard to beat. * * * * War Officer’s effort in getting within a length of Little Nelson at the end of i two-mile race at Ashburton on De- ! cember 3. in 4.32 4-.). was unexpected, and showed that he was not himself | when he was defeated earlier in the season in slower classes and by less pretentious company than he met at Ashburton. War Officer is on 340 in a 3.41 class at Riccarton to-morrow, and, now that he has struck form, one would expect him to take a prominent part in the finish. rahnt. riXTrnr-s.
