PROGRESS LEAGUE.

Good Progress Made With

Irrigation.

Eight or nine experimental irrigation plots have been selected in various districts by the Canterbury Progress League, and experiments will be conducted with farmers under the supervision of experts from Lincoln College. The Irrigation Committee reported to this effect at the meeting of the league last evening. The president, Mr O. Flavell, presided over a good attenance.

The report stated that encouraging progress had been made. Dr Marsden, of the Department of Industrial and Scientific Research, had bteen interested in the work and, as the result of representations made to the Prime Minister, had made a grant of £SO which would be spent in travelling expenses. There would be a great deal of travelling. The Tieport was received. Mr <3. F. Allen was elected a member of the executive. A resolution was passed supporting a protest of the Otago Expansion League against the proposed closing of the tourist hostels and suggesting that they be leased and. if possible, operated by private enterprise.
