Ford and Hadfield, Ltd., report having sold, on account of a client, a residential property situated Windsor Terrace. City, to Mr Phillips. The property situated No. 13, Hastings Street, which they were to submit for sale by public auction on September 24. has been withdrawn. as they have sold It by private AUCKLAND BUSINESS. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, September 17. As is usually the case, this morning’s call was inclined to dullness, only two sa’es being recorded. Fresh bidding: disclosed a quiet tone. This was particularly noticeable in the banking section, in which several linos were neglected by buyers. Commercials were on offer at 15s, and New Zealands at 4Ss. There was a fair inquiry in the timber division, with bidders for Bartholomews, Kauris, O’Briens and Nationals. Among Australian tssues. Colonial Sugars were most prominent, and. afte.r touching a new high level for the year with a sale at £46, there were still buyers at that figure. Gear Meats improved with buyers at 345. Buyers of Whittome Stevensons advanced their offers 2s to 12s. Buyers came for Grey and Menzies’ 10s shares at 2s 6d. and Milne and Clioyce debenture stock was offered 3d lower at 16s 9d. Blackwater Mines were in keen demand with buyers at 18s 3d and holders out for 19s 3d. Government 4 5 per cent stocks were easier, with the best buyers stopping at £94 10s. GOLDEN DAWN MINES. The following is the mine report from Golden Dawn Gold Mines. Ltd., for the two weeks ended September 10: No. 3 Level.—Sloping has been c&rrfred

on in four blocks on No. 1 reef, with machines working three shifts. The reef here averages 3ft wide, and the ore is of very fair value. In the etopes on this reef near No. 2 level a branch reef came in from the hanging wall and functioned with the main reef, making into a blow of good ore over Sft wide. The block has been carried along so far for 50ft, and is still carrying on. Intermediate Level: Stoping has been carried on No. ? reef with a machine working three shifts. The reef here averages four feet wide, and the ore of very fair value. No. 3 Level.—Stoping has also been carried ou with machines working three shifts on No. 3 reef. The reef her* averages 2ft wide, and the ore broken of good value. Filling of stopes with surface mullock is still being carried on. Messrs Laurenson and Lewis have received the following telegram giving return to September 10: “For twelve working days ended September 10, 375 tons treated for return £944. Gold valued at £4 per ounce.” The return is equivalent to 236 ounces worth at current prices plus exchange premium approximately £1420. Advice has also been received of the realisation of the four consignments of bullion to August 23 as follows: Bar* 11 and 12 valu'ed at £4 per ounce at £I2OO realised £1946. Bars 13 and 14 valued at £959 realised £1443. Bars 15 and 16 valued at £957 realised £1456, and bars 17 and 18 valued at £IOOB realised £1563. Mahakipawa Goldfield. Ltd. The mine manager of Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd. reports that the washup for the week produced 320 z alluvial gold. LONDON PBODUCB MARKET!!. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business this week: Frozen Meat —Smaller supplies of wetlier mutton have caused prices to harden. There is a fair demand for ewes. The advance in prices of lambs is unlikely to be maintained—the demand is not so good. Trade generally is slow, owing to bad weather. Quotations are: Wethers, light. 3ld to 4d per lb; heavy, 23d to 3Jd: ewes, 2d to 2Sd: lambs. 2's 4£d to 5Rd. S’s 42d to s|d. 4’s 4id to 4ld: seconds, 4ld to 4Sd.
