BIG FIREWORKS DISPLAY.

Arrangements for Next Saturday.

The inaugural event in the *' Come to Christchurch *’ Week will be a great display of fireworks on the Showgrounds next Saturday night. Such a brilliant attraction makes a fitting opening for the following celebrations and will doubtless attract a very large attendance of the public. The display is being presented by the Scottish Pipe Band to assist the Mayor’s Relief Fund. The local A. and P. Association is granting the grounds gratuitously for the occas-

A large display of fireworks never fails to please as an entertainment. It makes an appeal to old and young alike. There Is a fascination about pyrotechnics which attracts everybody, and father enjoys the flights of rockets and crackling of set pieces every bit as much as the little son whom he leads by the hand. Next Saturday’s display will introduce many fiery novelties. Set pieces in varied design, some of which are of a mechanical order, such as large rainbow wheels and revolving fountains, will alternate with flights of rockets emitting multi-coloured stars and showers of goldeft rain. Large star shells, rising suns and Japanese glories. and batteries of Roman candles will also be seen. Perhaps the finest set of all is the giant Golden Cascade, representing a waterfall in fire. This is said to be a very striking example of the pyrotechnists’s skill. The display is from the factory of Wainoni Fireworks, Ltd., whose staff of experts will erect and fire the various pieces. Prior to the display an illuminated parade will be conducted from the city to the Showgrounds by the Fire Brigade. The Scottish Pipe Band will he In attendance.
