TROTTING NOTES.

XTOMINATIONS for the spring meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club close to-morrow at 8 p.m. 'Jf. * Acceptances for the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting close on August 30, at noon. GRASS TRACK AVAILABLE. The grass circuit at New Brighton will be available on Saturday morning for horses engaged at the club's spring meeting. Oil! NATHANIEL. Nathaniel is doing everything that is required of him in a surprisingly easy manner. He is engaged in the Orakei Handicap at the Auckland Club’s meeting on Saturday. NEVER BETTER. Oliver Thorpe is being tried in mixed tasks. In saddle, recently, he hit out with freedom, and relished his allotments. Oliver Thorpe's work during the past three weeks has been uniformly good. TIIANKS FOR TIIE HOLIDAY. J. J. Kennerley has made another start on the Australian trotting gelding, Dark M’ Kinney. Last season. Dark M’Kinney was seven times in the money without notching a win. lie is in good health, and promises to train on satisfactorily. NEW SECRETARY To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr E. P. Cox, who is now secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, the Hawera Trotting Club has appointed Mr 11. E. Robinson, of Hawera, as secretary. IMPROVING. Pedlar, who is one of A. Julian’s team, is improving, but he may not be quite good enough to win at the approaching fixture at Auckland. He is pacing evenly and smoothly in his work, and looks a likely proposition for the country meetings later on. Rolfe Audubon, also in Julian’s team, looks well, but though he won a race at the winter meetings, he is not regarded as a very solid customer.

NOT TOO SOLID. Gold Treasure, who is again being trained by R. Hall, has not shown any form for some time. He gave a wretched display at the winter meeting at Auckland in June, and it was very evident he was not in condition to give of his best. The Gold Bell gelding is in the August Handicap on Saturday at Epsom, but there is no reason to expect him to beat the useful horses he is meeting. In any case, he is not always solid in his pacing and is liable to go to a tangle at any time. H: * * * In future, Mr W. H. Lake’s horses, Mauser and Sonoma, will be trained at Belfast by C. S. Donald. Mauser ran third in a two-mile race at the spring meeting of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club in 4min 53sec, and Sonoma won the Methven Cup in October last. Off 4min 38sec he only had to register 4min 36 2-ssec to win, but he has a better record of 4min 32 2-ssec.

J. S. Robertson is keeping Francis Lincoln busy with a view to having him ready for October meetings. COMING OX WELL. Though she has not been long in work at Auckland after her spell, Margaret Wallace is coming along nicely and she will be seen out at the approaching meeting. The daughter of Gold Bell is not likely to ever reach first-class handicap company, but she is a solid pacer, and in moderate company is always likely to go well. She does not appear to have much chance this week when in receipt of only 24yds from Pegaway in a mile and a half. A BRILLIANT PACER The speedy three-year-old pacer, Golden Direct, has made reappearance at Addington under F. G. Holmes. Golden Direct was taken to the races four times last season. He ran third to Taxpayer in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, and beat a field of pacers of all ages over a mile and a quarter at the special meeting of the Methven Trotting Club. FAIRYLAND IN WORK. J. S. Shaw has the trotter Fairyland in good order for her New Brighton engagement. She is by Guy Parrish from Dreamland, and last season she went to the races on twenty-two occasions for three wins, three seconds and three thirds. She is at home over all distances, and at Oamaru in May last, won a double. The track at Oamaru is a grass one. IN TWO RACES. The speedy trotter Carl Mack is engaged in two races at the Auckland meeting, and the chances are that he will take his place in the field in both. In the Introductory Trot he is a long way back in being handicapped on 132yds, and the task looks to be a little beyond him. However, in the Royal Oak Handicap later in the day he is on 48yds, and this race should see him playing a prominent part. He is now trained by I. Morrison and is working well for the young trainer. WILL CARRY ON. Kewpie’s Triumph is much in the public eye for the principal race at Auckland. He is a great stayer, and is in splendid buckle for the new season’s racing. Last year, Kewpie’s Triumph went to the post on twentytwo occasions. He scored six wins, was four times second and twice third. He is good on all kinds of tracks, his last win being at the Thames meeting in May last, where, from a 4.34 mark, he beat Anon in 4.46 1-5. The track was holding. Kewpie’s Triumph is by the American sire. The Triumph, 2.8!, from Kewpie, by Petereta from Matariki. Kewpie is also the dam of another outstanding pacer in Kewpie’s Guy. TROTTI NO FIXTURES.
