SUCCESSFUL SHOW.

All Expenses Cleared, but No Profit. BUSINESS MEN SATISFIED. Satisfaction with the result, though there will be no profit, was expressed on Saturday night by prominent business men when the Winter Show closed at the King Edward Barracks. After running for a fortnight, the expenses have been cleared and both the exhibitors and officials are well-pleased with the results. The attendance showed a decrease of 25 per cent on last year. There was a large crowd on Saturday night. The turnstile figures show that, for the thirteen days and nights the show was open, 34,700 adults and 9460 children attended. The largest attendance was on Saturday, August 13, when 5100 adults and 2700 children visited the show. The attendance on the closing Saturday was 2730 adults and 1190 children. These figures represent a decrease of 25 per cent on last year’s figures, and a decrease of 50 per cent on the attendances in 1930. “I am well satisfied with the efforts of the promoters who have made such a great success of the show,” said Mr W. J. Jenkins, president of the C anterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. “The quality of the exhibits all round has been exceptionally good, and again the country bays were outstanding. All arrangements have run smoothly and no trouble of any sort has occurred. I am more than satisfied with the result of the two weeks’ effort to show what tow r n and country can produce.” Mr E. Archbold, president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, said that he was pleased with the cooperation which had been shown among the farmers and the manufacturers. Mr Denys Hoare, secretary to the Manufacturers’ Association and joint secretary to the show executive, said that the attendances showed a drop of 25 per cent on last year. As for the finances, they would be just sufficient to clear expenditure. There would be no profit on the show.

“Taking present-day conditions into consideration, T don’t think we could j be other than pleased with the result,’’ j said Mr E. 11. Marriner, ’ organiser of j the show.
