EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.
Felt Fairly Severely at Blenheim. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 4. . A sharp but slight earthquake occurred at 1.17 this morning. Records at the Dominion Observatory indicate that the origin was between eighty and ninety miles distant from Wellington in a south-westerly direction. This would account for the fact that Blenheim felt the shake fairly severely. The ground during the shake tilted to the south.
An earthquake of mild intensity was felt in the city and on the West Qoast early this morning. The shock was noticed by only a few people in the city, but on the West Coast it was sufficiently severe to be felt generally A record of a ’quake was made at the Christchurch Observatory at 1.17 a.m. Ihe centre of the disturbance appeared to be about 200 miles from the city and is believed tb be somewhere off the WeSt Coast.
